Starter's Quick Guide

CelestaWhat to focus on?

When starting, focus on gaining a large army and developing a good income. This will give you the chance to buy good units/weapons/armor and eventually win more fights. At first buy what your money can get, but later (after income is more than at least 2 mils) try to buy in bulk, like in 5s or 10s cause it will cost you less. Later on, try to increase your att/def so you'll be able to withstand attacks. Don't just focus on energy, but try to get to at least 90, because this is the max energy required for the quests so far.

Good choices for first buys are tree ents that are highly effective for their price and also have no upkeep that would limit your income when you most need it. Also try to exchange as many gifts with your army as possible, since they have very good stats and you don't need to pay a dime.

When still on low income, try to put your money in the keep as often as possible to avoid getting robbed from opponents. After your income gets high, it gets more expensive to stash the money than actually keeping them in the open. However being a good money source can make you a target. So if your stats are good, let them in the open and use the attacks from others for free experience and money. If you are not very strong though, consider stashing, no matter how much the cost.

Battle Types

Battle Achievement

You have two options: dueling and invading. Dueling uses your active general and one of the following items: shield, helm, armor, amulet, weapon, and spell. It is advised to select your strongest general in charge when logging off the game. Currently, that general is Vanquish, if we are talking about heroes you can hire from the Heroes page. Invading will use as many units as your army size, one item and one spell for each of them. For every 5 units, one extra general will join the battle, so the more army and units you have, the better. Hiring all generals possible is recommended if you can handle their upkeep.

The item that will be used during the attack depends on if you are the attacker or the attacked. When attacking, you will use your best weapons with higher attack value, while when defending you will use the item with max defense points. For now, best weapons & armor are the Commander Plates which you can buy from the Smith when you get the rank of High Commander. Earlier on or if you are not much into battling, you can go for Steel Plates and Battle Axes.

The way you battle is up to you. Duels offer better chances to those with small armies but high personal stats, while invasions favor those with large armies and good equipment. Invasions offer also the chance for better loot, because you can use the help feature to gain double the max money that can be won in duels.

Occasionally, you will fight someone to the death, getting a message that you killed them, or you may find out that someone killed you. Getting killed means that the person's health dropped to 0. When that happens, the killed persons "Eliminated" count is increased by one, and they lose 1-3 experience points. They do not lose generals, land or anything else.

The weapon selection is done by checking only attack points when attacking and only defense points when defending. That means that for example if you attack and you have 100 army, 100 battleaxes and 100 steel plates, then those battle axes will be used in battle, because their attack value is higher than the one of steel plates, although it seems that steel plates have better total points.

If you find someone you want to attack again because they gave good money, or because you want to take revenge from them then you can use the following link, replacing X with the Facebook ID number of your opponent

Questing

Vanquish the Angel

There are different lands with quests available to all players. Each area is unlocked after finishing 4 out of 5 of the previous' land quests. Each area so far -except demon's realm, has special quests that give out 4 artifacts, and some special drops, like the Holy avenger, Lightening storm spell or amulet of Cefka. The artifacts are used as "keys" that grant you access to demon's realm. Each quest has prerequisites shown right after the Quests name and quest must be repeated several times in order to be completed. In order to proceed with each quest, you have to select the General shown in the quest's image, or else you will not gain influence over the territory. The most difficult quest so far is in the demon's realm and requires 100 dragons, 100 phoenixes, 100 angels, 50steel plates, 50 sacred amulets and 50 battle axes. More areas are expected to be added soon, but nothing released so far.

Army and adding more people

to succeed you need more people to join your cause

Call to Arms - Cronus24hours. You can add more people that play the game through the official "add me" threads by either manual adding them one by one, or using the mass e-mail lists. After that, you can either put those people in separate game lists and restrict their access to your profile, or delete them entirely.

If you find you have no more friends to invite to the game there are two options. Either add more people from the threads, or go to army page, and under "sent invites" tab, select "stop messenger" for some of your friends.

So far there is no valid direct invite link. Those that are posted around are not working, so don't spam your friends by re-posting them.

How to add people from add me threads:
A) If you choose the manual adding, go to one of the threads, post your name in the last page, and start adding people as friends one-by-one, by stating "Castle Age" in the personal message of theinvite.
B) If you choose the fast add e-mail option do the following:
- (Optional) Copy the last post of the e-mail list, paste it in your answer and add your own e-mail in the end of the list, separated by comma from the last one.
-Copy the e-mail list and then from Facebook menu select Friends-> Invite
-Paste the e-mail list in the "To" box
-Write "Castle Age" on the "message" box right below
-Click invite

After new friends accept friend invitation, you can go to Facebook menu, select Friends-> Recently added and see the names of the people that just joined you. Use the list to select the people to invite from army page, or train from the grounds.

You have 2 options concerning those new friends. Once they accept the game invite you can delete them from friends, and still keep them in your army, keeping your profile clean. You can also keep them as friends, but in separate lists with restricted access to your profile, so that they won't access personal info, but they will be around if you need them for new games.

To add people in a list, do the following:

-Go to Facebook menu and select Friends
-From there select "Create new list" button. In the pop up window, select the friends you want to add to this list and then click "save".
-To edit the privacy settings for these friends go to Facebook menu, select Settings->Privacy Settings->Profile.
-Go to the Basic Info and from the drop down list select Customize. To the bottom of the window that pops up, click on the "except these people" field, and select the name of the list you just created.
-Do the same for any of the other options given (like Photos, wall posts etc).

If you feel the News feeds get clogged from stranger's news, you can use the list feature to see only news from people you like. For example, in the home page, go up and left, right below the button "News Feed". Your lists should show up there. Select the one you want to see news from, like Family or Good Friends, and immediately the news are filtered to the ones from people you are interested about.

Important Note about Special Offers

The Oracle

Filling out special offers can be long, annoying and fruitless. Offers usually require you to provide not only your email, but also your personal information (name, address, phone number) before they are complete. If you wish to get favor points, it is recommended to just pay the Castle Age developers directly.

Also note, many of these offers are, in actuality, scams. Some players have been known to effectively manipulate these offers as a means to gather free favor points. However, as previously stated, a great deal of patience is required for doing this, because, even upon completion, said offers have been known to occasionally not follow through with the promised favor points.

The most "trustworthy" offers are generally the ones that offer very, very few points (typically, the ones that only offer 2 points) because they are (for example) simple gaming websites trying to encourage others to try out their sites to innocently attempting to build their popularity with incentives to join their communities.

Most offers, on the other hand, have the ultimate goal of putting the player's personal/contact information into advertising/spamming lists, or worse yet, "sneak" small fees onto one's monthly credit card bill. It is highly recommended that you never provide a phone number, mailing address, and especially not a credit card number to any of these often-illegitimate offers.

Sea Serpents Quick Guide and Facts

sea serpentOn 12/9/09, CA developers came out with a new set of Sea Serpent monsters with a new set of rules. I thought it would be a good idea to put all the new info about them in 1 place instead of all over. Please feel free to add what's missing.

Story: Sea Serpents are attacking your ship!
Save your ship by killing monster before it kills your ship!

There are 4 new Serpent monsters:
Emerald, Sapphire, Amethyst and Ancient Red Sea Serpents
- Create via Alchemy using resources gained from Player Gifts

Summoning Level Requirements:
Emerald: 0-10 or above 10? Not confirmed
Sapphire: Lvl 26 and above.
Amethyst: Lvl 51 and above.
Ancient: Lvl 76 and above.

New!
2 Health bars, Red and Blue
Red Bar: Monster Health
Uses 1 or 5 Stamina : Attack Button & Power Attack Button
Result: Click Attack or Power Attack the Red health bar goes down - you kill the monster when red bar at 0 and collect loot

New!: Every hit will cause sea monster to reduce the blue bar (Ship health) AND your personal health SEPARATELY

Important: DO NOT USE single attacks on Serpents : Serpent will damage your SHIP for every atk... so a SINGLE atk will cause your blue bar as much damage as a Power Atk. Serpents can hit for nearly as much as a power atk, it's a range. So your 3000 single attack can cause Serpent to hit your ship (blue bar) for as much as 20,000. Not very smart.

Blue Bar - Ship Health.
Uses 10 Energy: Fortify button
Facts:
1. Every time you click Fortify, the blue bar goes up.
2. When your defense stat is high, the blue bar will move up more. You will get a corresponding increase in the amount of healing done to the ship.
3. The higher this bar, the MORE damage bonus to the Red Bar when the monster is attacked.
4. The LOWER this bar, the LESS damage attackers can do to the monster. When this bar reaches 0, Monster cannot take damage (Red bar cannot move)

The above changes mean that the formerly useless Defense stat is highly valued in fights against Sea Serpents.

Player Things to Know:
1. Defense stat players are Welcome:
Gain XP & Loot for using Energy and high Defense to Fortify.
One Fortify (10 Energy) can give possibly more XP than the current highest 1:1.75 Quest Ratio currently (varies of course)
PLUS you share in the loot from the monster.

2. New Damage Tally:
There are now 2 numbers in the Leader board next to the names: Atk/Def
COMBINED TOTAL of atk + def determines Leader Board position for loot.
Only Fortifying will also get Loot, same as ONLY attacking
- Note: you can get MORE XP ratio per 10 energy hit than from the best quest XP ratio out there (plus the loot too)

3. Ship Health Matters:
The healthier your ship, the faster the monster will die, because it will take more damage from attacks.
-- If ship is below 1/2, start with Fortify - not critical, but optimal. The fights go much faster with a healthy ship
At 0 blue bar, the monster takes ZERO damage.
-- Solution: Fortify Fortify Fortify, try not to let blue bar get below 1/2.

4. Don't forget the story:
-- the REASON you are killing the monster is to save your ship.
Letting your ship (blue bar) fall apart totally ruins the reason you are doing this.

Loot Tables:
Ancient Red Serpent: : Summon Cost: 4 Ancient(red) eggs + 1 Poseidon Horn + 1 Trident of the Deep
Epic Chance Drops: Rune Axe / Atlantean Gauntlet / Sun Sword / Wolf Spirit / Moonfall Mace / Map Piece / Atlantean Helmet
Rare Chance Drops: Atlantean Sword / Demonic Armor / Berzerker Plate / Holy Shield

Amethyst Sea Serpent : Summon Cost: 3 Amethyst(purple) eggs +1 Poseidon Horn +1 Trident of the Deep
Epic Chance Drops: Water Elemental / Sun Blade / Atlantean Spear / Wolf Spirit / Lionheart Blade / Map Piece / Atlantean Helmet
Rare Chance Drops: Atlantean Mace / Elven Armor / Avenger Amulet / Holy Shield / Demonic Mask

Sapphire Sea Serpent : Summon Cost: 2 Sapphire(blue) eggs +1 Poseidon Horn +1 Trident of the Deep
Epic Chance Drops: Lightbringer / Atlantean Armor / Sun Blade / Wolf Spirit / Atlantean Helmet / Map Piece / Tempest Shield
Rare Chance Drops: Fairy Wings / Poseidon Horn / Moonfall Crown / Avengers Amulet / Gift Dragon / Gift Phoenix

Emerald Sea Serpent : Summon Cost: 1 Emerald(green) eggs + 1 Poseidon Horn + 1 Trident of the Deep
Epic Chance Drops: Rune Axe / Sword of the Sea / Crystal Rod / Tempest Shield / Map Piece
Rare Chance Drops: Sword of the Sea / Colossus Armor / Staff of the Tempest / Moonfall Crown / Gift Dragon / Gift Phoenix

Most Important Serpent Loot:

Map Pieces:
Each Monster drops 1 map piece - Combined, they give you access to new Realm Atlantis (under Quests tab)
- Collect all 4 map pieces (one from each color monster) to Create Map of Atlantis (under Alchemy tab)

Map piece positions:
Emerald - bottom left
Sapphire - bottom right
Amethyst - top left
Ancient - top right

The completed Map gains you entry into the New Realm of Atlantis
- As soon as the map is completed, you unlock a new General: Nautica (see my avatar pix- that's Nautica)

General Nautica: Purchase for 150,000,000 gold (under Heros Tab) Upkeep Cost: 150,000 Gold
An elf-born rogue, Nautica's love for the sea and wealth led her to a pirate's life. She now leads her own band of pirates in search for treasure and the long lost land of Atlantis.
16(+1) Attack
11(+1) Defense
Special Ability:
While equipped, increases Player Attack by 3.
(oops - mine's level 2. At level 1, she's Increase Player Attack by 2)

- available for sale in Heros Tab once Map of Atlantis is Created (Alchemy)
- Buy her to complete Quests in new Realm Atlantis

Spartans:
Each monster drops Spartan Pieces
Spartan Warrior
Atlantean Archer
Spartan Spear
Spartan Helm
Spartan Shield
The above Spartan items are the Resources used to access the Quests in Atlantis. ** See Atlantis Section below for numbers needed**

Separately: 300 Spartan Warriors will combine in Alchemy to form a 70/70 Unit called a Spartan Phalanx, currently the highest level Unit in the game.

Atlantean Force Field: Combine in the Alchemy Tab under: Recipes
Requires: Atlantean Gauntlet (Red Serpent Drop) / Atlantean Spear (Purple Serpent Drop / Atlantean Armor (Blue Serpent Drop) Atlantean Shield - Source is Unknown at this time- Later Content - have confirmed that the shield is NOT at the end of current quest.

Solidify your defense when offline: Use Celesta as General

CelestaAfter all the battles and monster killings you need to recharge your energy and stamina. But before you go offline, set Celesta as your general because she has these special ability: Increase Player Defense by 7. Player Defense is increased an additional 15 when attacked. you will be exposed to attacks from other player which is why this general should be set before going offline.

Guide for the Small Army Duelist: Tips to Stay Small in Castle Age

By sfgiantsfanmike

Demi Power

I’m going to assume you know the basics of Castle Age and go from there. I know one of the problems I ran across for Castle Age was that I felt I needed a big army to do well in the game. Eventually I found out differently.

To go the small route isn’t as easy and fast as getting 501 member army and hammering small armies that may be more potent member for member; however it is more streamlined and less resource intensive.

The way to go small is to go “duelist,” that is, you’re equipped general versus another players equipped general and all you best equipment. So what’s the trick to dueling then? Have the best general and equipment possible, not to mention your stats.

How to do so? Well for equipment all you really need to worry about is doing the Demi-powers. Those are located under the Oracle tab if you haven’t found them yet. The Demi’s offer elite level equipment to the player that chooses to go down their path. Sure, it starts a bit slow (a 2/1 sword from Ambrosia right off the bat? That’s weak…) but this is how you will acquire powerful items like the Sword of Redemption (50/30).

So, who to choose first? I suggest Azeron to get the aforementioned Sword of Redemption along with his other equipment (Blade of Vengence is one of the best Swords in the game) which is nice. It also ups your stamina for free, which costs 2 skill points versus the other stats 1 skill point, which will free up skill points to boost your stats.

Other contenders? Aurora is nice, though her stat boost isn’t as nice (Hit Points) as the others but her top end item is the Moon Fall Amulet (40/40), not to mention her Moon Fall Shield and Robes which have some nice stats. Ambrosia has some decent stuff but may not be worth the effort early (though she was who I choose initially for the free energy boost). The other two don’t offer good items but do offer you boosts to your two most important stats: Attack and defense.

To note: it is better to stick with one Demi than to jump around to the various demi’s depending on what stat you feel you need at that moment or what triffle of a gift they’re offering. If you’re just starting up it is tempting to jump around and collect all the early items that land evenly on the 100 points (100-600 all give out rewards), but that would waste 24 days (6 items to collect X the 4 Demi’s you’re not going to master at first). I would rather be on the day 30 gifts of 1 Demi than to have all those other items, for Azeron that would mean you’re 100 points away from acquiring the “Blade of Redemption,” a 17/15 item and 2nd or third best of it’s type versus having the Avenger Plate Mail, Tempest Crown and a bunch of other things of this nature.

Stat Point Allocation

So that brings us to stat allocation. For a dueler your attack and defense stats are both of the utmost importance. So should you master one at the expense of the other or be a jack of all trades? Well, both stats factor in when attacking or defending but the opposite stat (defense when attacking and attack when you are defending against an attack) takes a hit. If you play the middle ground you’ll always have a nice base line stat to help you out; however, it won’t help you against a specialist as they’ll over power you with one stat or the other.

My suggestion would be to “max” out attack as a small army duelist. Why attack when defense is a better strategy overall? Well, if you put a ton into defense and still have a small army you’ll get your head handed to you in invasions by people with big armies one way or the other and when you actively duel you’ll be taking a hit on your defense stat so you won’t use all of your stat points anyway. If someone were to duel you and lose while having a big army you can guess what coming next, right? But if you have attack really high you can then duel others and use all those stat points you pumped in there and over come all but the most hardened duelists.

Here’s my rough suggestion to put into each stat and how to build them:

  • Attack- You’ll want to build this on high… but after you get your energy. In the end this is your most important stat.
  • Defense- Don’t drop a single point here, it’s a waste since large armies will just overpower you anyway might as well have the best chance possible to overcome their dueling defense with a huge attack stat.
  • Hit Points- Not a point. Right now 100 is enough. Should only be raised through Aurora blessings.
  • Energy- Pump this first, strait to 100. Eventually you’ll want more than that but you can get those points “for free” through Ambrosia blessings.
  • Stamina- At first, as much as it hurts, you want to increase this only through Azeron, blessings. As for the total amount of points here? I’m at 50, getting roughly 22 from Azeron and 3 for free, making up ½ of my total stamina. That’s 50 stat points, or 10 levels, worth of points I poured in there. Makes it a breeze to keep battling people but is REALLY nice when I have a full bar and go dragon hunting!

Generals

Now we are down to generals. Well, in truth if you don’t get lucky with those first 20 favor points you’re choices now are pretty much limited to Vanquish, the Angel of Death. She’s nice, 15/14, but doesn’t hold up well against the Epic Generals headed up by Mephistopheles at 24/20. You’ll be at a bit of a disadvantage if all you have is Vanquish but the good news is that a 9/6 deficit isn’t all that big of a deal once you get a few levels under you as peoples stat arcs will differ. There is another general you can get without Favor Points (ie, waiting to gather them through your demi and dragons) and her name is Keira. Check her section out for more details.

Dragons

Dragons are a nice way for a small army to gain valuable loot, especially early on. As a duelist you’re focusing on getting at least some stamina and having good attack/defense so this is another step for you to take. Also to note each dragon type gives out a special item that can be put together via alchemy. The item is the “Helm of Dragon Power” and is a 30/30 helm, the best in the game. Getting one of these bad boys will do loads to give you a leg up on the competition.

Keira

Good ol’ Keira, the trash talkin’ guardian of Mephistopheles, is another good source of loot. Pretty much the same thing applies here to dragons *except* to complete her alchemy item, having her as a general, you have to be able to summon her yourself. To do this you need to obtain the “Orb of Keira” from doing the boss quest in the demon realm. You have a 50/50 shot at getting it, the flip of a coin so to speak, so it shouldn’t take too many tries BUT the quest requires 100 energy, so if you miss the first time you’ll probably have to wait for a) a level up b) getting up in the morning to try again.

If you’re struggling to get to the demon realm don’t hesitate to help out others with their Keira. You may be able to gobble up the other 5 dreadnought items through those so that when you finally do summon your own Keira hopefully you can get lucky enough to get her “soul” item and complete the alchemy. Keira is a 15/23 general and can keep up with even the epics from the treasure chests mainly due to her best in class defense as no other general comes within 3 defense points.

General Tips

So to be thorough, here are a few other pointers:

  • Buy land (available under the town tap) when you can. I have a income of 50+ million and it isn’t enough for my large army; however, if you get that high as a duelist you’ll be set for life. Get yourself up in the teens of millions and you’ll do great, especially if you start making Castle Age friends and start to find you have a decent size army you might want to equip with the best things.

  • Don’t buy anything if it seems WAY too expensive. I know when you first start up 10K sounds like a lot for a dagger but eventually you’ll be plunking down 5 million on a Phoenix and not batting an eye lash at the total.

  • Keep your generals and, in general, don’t sell extra equipment and soldiers. I can’t tell you how many millions I’ve wasted re-buying stuff after I’ve sold it…

  • Keep in mind that to do all your questing you will need an army size of 21. If you can’t get 21 real friends to join you in Castle Age there is a few ways to get around it. First would be to befriend someone met in game. Keira and the dragons are great for this as there is a chat box so that you can get a feel for a person. Sometimes you might run into the same person multiple time as you’re both fighting a friends dragon/Keira together. If you like them add them. Another is to add random people and unfriend them but I consider this a bit unsightly for my taste. If this is what you choose to do there’s nothing really all that wrong with it. Then there is buying them through the Oracle. Don’t buy early on as she will only offer you 1 army member for 20 points, wait until she starts offering three at higher levels, which a friend tells me happens around level thirty. Doing it this way is Favor Point intensive, though, as you would need 7 rounds (or 140 favor points) of this to fill out your party. This is only a last resort type of deal.

Here's a tip from E.L.:

I love dueling! woot!
I can finally get back to it now that dragons are so popular. the annoying "this army is dead...no attacking ha ha" message has gone away.

Until the demi points pan out for you, visit the blacksmith and buy one of each of the best items available (weapon, shield, helmet, etc). Even without Azeron or favor points for generals, you can still do really well with just Vanquish, the blacksmith, and inflated attack points.

Check the battle rank of your opponents, you're pretty much going to want to avoid any General or Commander. They'll have been playing for awhile and probably won't have any weaknesses.

When buying land, never buy one. the price goes up after each purchase, so even though it will take longer at first, save up and buy ten at a time.
